I am a Video Editor & Motion Graphics Designer specialized in Explainer and Documentary videos.
With strong foundational knowledge of storytelling techniques and first principles approach towards video creation, combined with deliberate practice over the years; allows me to visualize an idea and present it in clear, concise and visually appealing format.
My BBA degree gives me a unique edge in understanding and simplifying the complex business and economics video into crystal clear visual format which engages, educates and informs the audience.
My tool kit includes industry standard software like Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator and cutting edge AI tools.
Apart from this, I am deeply passionate about collage style, character animation, character rigging, and mix-media art.
The Humble Beginnings:
(This is the aerial view of my hometown Badodar village with population of around 2200 people).
The story dates back to 8 May 2005, when I was born in Badodar village, which belogs to Saurashtra region of Gujarat State (fun fact: my town is just 45 km away from Dhirubhai’s hometown, Chorwad). My father’s name is Karimbhai, and he is a farmer; my mother, Gulshan Ben, is a housewife.
Playing cricket is the first childhood memory I can still recall. Because my mother taught me the fundamentals of English and the alphabet by bowling at me for an hour every night.
(This is the image of my first birthday with my mom; captured on a camera).
Despite not having completed her secondary education, she made an effort to impart knowledge to me based on what she had read in newspapers, magazines, and different shows that she had listened to on the radio throughout her life.
My father is a very shy, quiet, and introverted kind of person, and speaks only when it is most needed. He is really encouraging of everything I do. In my entire life, he had hardly scolded me five or ten times, as far as I could recall.
Also, as a middle-class family, he never told me that we didn’t have enough resources. But he always reminded me to be grateful for what we have.
(Nothing would be possible without family support;. Obviously, parents are there to help but very grateful for my sister for identifying my mistakes and correcting me when I am wrong).
The School Life:
(Went to Mumbai for the first time in my life).
My father failed in 12th grade, but he quickly understood and recognised the value of education and the English language for my better future.
So I joined an English-medium school and completed my L.K.G. and H.K.G. from St. Peter’s School, and completed my secondary education from Sigma Group of Schools, Keshod.
I was good at numbers, logic, and mathematics till the second grade, but as the level of logic and numbers increased, I couldn’t keep up and fell behind in mathematics, statistics, and science.
Although I was good at other subjects, by which I managed to be in the Top 5 rankers. At one point, I was so bad at math that I got the same answer as the teacher without the use of proper methods or formulas😂.
In the year 2015 or 2016 onward, when I was in the 5th grade, our family got an internet connection thanks to the Jio revolution. By which I started watching WWE, food, comedy, and DIY stuff on YouTube for 20-30 minutes daily. At that time, I didn’t know that people could make real money from creating engaging videos on YouTube.
Life till 8th grade went by just going to school, doing homework, struggling with math and statistics, playing gully cricket with friends, and watching YouTube videos for fun.
(We play cricket in the summer season only because our village don't have ground so we have to play in the empty river).
After 8th grade in 2018, I decided to be a cricketer, as every Indian kid wants to, and I wanted to represent India at the international level.
(The thesis I to gave myself was that I would be a fast bowler because India doesn’t have fast bowlers like Brett Lee and Shoaib Akhtar.) So my father arranged nets, and I started practising on my farm with a leather ball every single day after studies.
(Practicing on my farm and chasing unrealistic dream of representing India one day).
My obsession and passion gradually turned into madness, and I made the decision to enrol in a cricket academy. But the academy’s admissions were full, so I was not accepted.
(At cricket academy ground in the 8th grade summer vacation but not get admission as seats are full).
But God’s plan is always better than ours; in 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic shocked the world when I was in 9th grade.
I began consuming Sandeep Maheshwari Sir just before COVID-19, based on my sister’s advice.
And from there on, slowly, I started consuming content on business case studies, finance, economics, geopolitics, and self-improvement.
By which, I found that we could earn money using just a laptop and the internet.
I had an old laptop back then, on which I just used to play GTA, nothing else. Slowly, I started coding on Visual Studio by watching the Code with Harry tutorials. (At the time of the WhiteHat jouner coding boom in India).
I learned the basics of HTML and CSS, but when JavaScript came, I went blank and was not able to understand it, as it is related to math and logic, which I hate the most. So I stopped coding.
(I was very disciplined and followed all the school rules and regulations. So I also got the Best Student of the Year award when I was in 6th grade).
In the middle of cricket, covid, coding and watching case studies and self-improvement content, finally completed my 10th grade with 87.5% in April, 2021.
Commerc Stream:
(Early days of 11th grade; going to my village with friend on foot at 2 pm as no bus comes to my village after 1 pm afternoon).
After the tenth grade, there was no reason to choose the science stream because I struggled with math and statistics, and the science stream’s fees were higher than those of the commerce stream, which my family couldn’t afford.
Parallelly, I was also watching content related to business and
self-improvement, which planted a strong desire inside me to pursue commerce.
Finally, I joined the Eklavya Public School, Junagadh. The education is decent, but better than what used to be in Keshod. But the main problem is the transportation facilities in my village.
Junagadh is 40 km away from my village. So, I wake up at 5 and go to Junagadh on the 6 am train, which is the only local train that stops in our village, and I reach earlier than my professors and come home at around 3 pm by a bus, which stops in other nearby villages.
(I reach to school earlier than professors and students in the 11th and 12th grade as only one early morning train stops in my village).
Honestly, that 11th and 12th grade phase has built my character and given me self-discipline and strength to fight challenges and problems.
Finally, I completed my higher secondary education with 81.29% in April 2023. (The grade remained stable because I still had to handle accounts and statistics.)
The Turning Point:
I was very bad at public speaking and feared it a lot because I was very shy and introverted, like my father at school. But I decided to change that weakness of mine by starting a YouTube channel after school.
Aman Dhattarwal, one of my favorite creator, said, “Explore new things in college as a side hustle and see how things go, and even if you fail, you will learn something meaningful.” That advice has also subconsciously influenced my YouTube decision.
The idea was simple. I will create content around the economy, investing, finance, business, and books on my YouTube channel to improve my communication skills, and if it goes well, then I will be able to make money from my channel.
(Uploaded first video on the rise & fall of fiat currency on my 18th Birthday as I have watched "The Hidden Secrets of Money" Series by Mike Maloney).
I keep uploading 3-4 videos per month from May 2023 to February 2024, and slowly the focus shifts from making money to just creating a video for fun and joy by making small improvements along the way.
In just 10 months, I have uploaded 33 long-form videos on my YouTube channel.
(On my old laptop; I used to edit on opensource software called Shotcut and create simple animations in Canva).
In the first year of college, I participated in the Student of the Year competition. From there on, momentum shift, and I got noticed by Pro.Khushboo Vasani via a common friend.
(Not able to won the Student of The Year Award but reached in the Super 30 students).
Then Khusbhoo Mam approached me and told me that our Noble University is starting a Management Conclave series, where the founders of different companies will deliver a talk, and students will be able to ask questions to them. So I need someone who can volunteer to create a short documentary on the founders who will visit the University, so students can get a better understanding of the founders and their companies.
Without taking much time, I said yes, because creating videos from start to end is becoming more fun for me than making money from it. I started enjoying the video creation process.
So I worked for my university for 1 year and created 4 videos for them (3 guest documentaries and 1 intro video for another competition). The last documentary I made for the University was on Shri. Govind Bhai Dholakiya. And liked it so much that he mentioned it in his speech at the University.
(I am really grateful towards Govind Kaka for appreciating my effort on documentary).
If I want to break down my college journey to help you understand how I turned into a Video Editor and Motion Graphics Designer, then it would look something like this:
Semester 1: Started a YouTube Channel with an old second-hand laptop by editing on open-source software named Shotcut and by creating simple animations on Canva.
Semester 2: Uploaded 33 videos and started working for the University.
Semester 3:Took different courses on Visual Storytelling, AI, and marketing to gain foundational knowledge.
Semester 4: Bought a new Laptop on my father’s birthday on 2nd September 2024 with his hard-earned savings.
(Started leaning professional editing in September, 2024 on new laptop by following GFXMentor).
Semester 5: Stop working for Universities and create documentaries by learning the basics of Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
Semester 6: Experiments with new styles and techniques to learn more about storytelling and editing.
I haven’t thought in my wildest dream that I would be a Video Editor and Motion Designer. But I would say that, knowingly or unknowingly, I have a passion for video creation.
Since childhood, whenever we went to any marriage function, I used to stand behind the videographer to understand how the camera works, and also edit birthday and marriage anniversary
videos of our family members on a mobile phone since 2015, when we got internet connection.
4 Lessons that I have learned along this journey full of ups and downs:
1. Never Give Up: No, I am not a motivational speaker or John Cena standing in the Raw ring screaming Never give up. I just want to say, never give up on your creative vision if the software is not working properly or things are not going as per your plan. Trust me, if you stick to something for long enough, God will open the right door for you.
2. Connecting the Dots: This is coming from a hard-core fan of Steve Jobs. Yes, dots will connect in the future, no matter how random or unconnected they feel in the present. In my case, it is 100% true because now I will easily be able to conclude different decisions and events of my life when I look back.
3. Treat every project as if it is our first and last project: This is the mindset that I am also struggling to develop. Treat every project as if it is our first will help us to be humble and grounded whenever we work and it feels like we are beginners in the field, not an “expert.” And treating every project as if it is the last will motivate us to make extra efforts in our projects.
4. Sharpen the Saw:
This is the habit that I have learned from the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, where the author talks about making improvements in the four important areas of our life: Physical by doing yoga and exercises, Mental by performing meditation and prayers, Emotional by spending more time with family members, and Spiritual by surrendering ourselves to God.
Thanks,
